Earth Products China (EPC) appointed as Sole Agent of MIT Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH (MIT) in China, Hong Kong and Macau

From 2020, Earth Products China (EPC) appointed as Sole Agent of MIT Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH (MIT) in China, Hong Kong and Macau. MIT started in 1995 when the company was first founded in Dresden. MIT is specialized for Thickness Measuring Device and Dowel Position Measuring Device, mainly apply for NDT of highways structures.

Thickness Measuring Device
MIT-SCAN-T3
The conventional method to measure the thickness of the highways structure is Core-Drilling. However, this method is destructive to the highways. To solve this problem, MIT developed an innovative and non-destructive method that based on electromagnetic pulse induction technology and it is now widely used in road construction and civil engineering. It complies with international standards: AASHTO T359-2016, TP D-StB 12, EN 12697-36 and etc.

MIT-SCAN-T3 is capable to measure the thickness of pavement layers (Surface-Base-Subbase) respectively while the ground penetration radar GPR cannot.
The test range of MIT-SCAN-T3 is 15 to 500 mm, based on installed reflector. Measurement accuracy is ± (0.5% of measured value + 1 mm). Resolution is 1mm. Operating temperature is up to 110 °C. The device is reliable for construction supervision and Quality assurance.

As the test range can go down to 15mm thin, this makes MIT-SCAN-T3 a perfect device to control the quality of protective layer, for example, Fog Seals, Slurry Seals, etc. The seals are generally thinner than 3.5mm, which GPR is not capable to measure the thickness.

Dowel Position Measuring Device
MIT-DOWEL-SCAN

MIT-DOWEL-SCAN is a measuring instrument designed for non-destructive testing of dowel and tie bar positions in concrete pavements. Operating on the pulse induction method, the measuring device makes use of the magnetic properties of the installed steel bars. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is one of the customers for MIT-DOWEL-SCAN. This device complies with international standard: ASTM E3013.
Concrete slabs contract and expand due to temperature fluctuations. Contraction joints serve to absorb these movements. Dowel bars are embedded in concrete pavements to transfer the load across the joints. The proper alignment of dowel bars is critical to ensure the long-term performance of the joint. Misaligned bars can lock up the joints and prevent them from opening and closing freely. If bars are not centred adequately under the joint saw cut, they may not be effective in providing load transfer, which can cause uncontrolled crack formation and may reduce the life time of concrete pavement significantly.
MIT-DOWEL-SCAN determines the discrepancy between the real bar position and the ideal position of dowel bars. A design placed bar lies in the vertical center of the slab, perpendicular to the joint cut and with its center in the joint.

The graphical representation of the signal is a scrolling color map, which shows the dowel bars during the test. After the test run, bar positions are immediately determined and displayed in table form in the display of the control unit. The device is reliable for construction supervision and Quality assurance.
